What is this event about?
ARTNETdlr presents their inaugural Open Mic event, Words by the Sea, to run on the second Wednesday of each month upstairs in Walters Pub, 68 Georges Street Upper, Dun Laoghaire, Dublin.
How does the Open Mic work?
Readers will have a maximum of 5 minutes each — please don’t use more than the five minutes out of respect for the other readers on the night as an over run on time can result in reduced time available for others who wish to read. A golden rule is to be respectful and quiet when someone else is performing. Five minutes could be four short poems, flash fiction, about 800 words of prose, or lyrics for a song (which could of course be sung!). Please rehearse and check your timing before arriving. On the night we’ll order the open mic readings on a first come first served basis — just tell the organisers when you arrive if you wish to read. For all readers it is important to respect the diversity and sensitivities of the audience. Listeners are just as welcome as performers! Moderation is by the event organisers.

Alison Hackett founded the publishing house 21st Century Renaissance in 2012. She publishes the poetry of Arnie Yasinski and Chris Fitzpatrick. Her own publications include The Visual Time Traveller, included in the Global Irish Design Challenge exhibitions of 2016/2017 and two poetry collections, Crabbing and Sentient.
Phil Lynch’s poems have appeared in a range of literary journals and anthologies. His work has been featured in a number of national and local radio arts shows. He is a regular performer at poetry/spoken word events and festivals in Ireland and further afield. His poetry collection, In a Changing Light (Salmon Poetry) was published in 2016.
