Kate Strain is a visual arts curator with over 10 years of experience in commissioning, producing, mediating & presenting contemporary art. In 2022 she founded Kunstverein Aughrim, a curatorial production office located in County Wicklow, Ireland. She is co-founder/curator of the Department of Ultimology in collaboration with Fiona Hallinan, and co-curator of RGKSKSRG in collaboration with Rachael Gilbourne. From 2016 to 2021 Strain was the Artistic Director of Grazer Kunstverein in Austria.

A graduate of History and the History of Art and Architecture, Trinity College Dublin, Strain holds an MA in Visual Arts Practice, IADT Dun Laoghaire, and participated in de Appel Curatorial Programme at de Appel arts centre, Amsterdam and Young Curators Residency Programme at Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin. Strain is a member of IKT, the international association of curators of contemporary art, and regularly lectures in curatorial practice, art history and contemporary art.

Gain valuable insights and tips from curator Kate Strain, on how to approach applying for funding opportunities, how to pitch and articulate artistic ideas, and how to write creative proposals. Working through a fictional case study, participants will practice useful writing exercises, consider multiple perspectives, and learn about helpful tools and research resources. The workshop is an opportunity to meet other artists and enhance your own grant writing abilities.
