PHIL STEWART

My work as an Artist falls into two main areas – Drawing and Fine Art Embroidery.  I am inspired by nature, the elements and the figure.  I often work towards an allegory of a natural event or a comparison associated with it. Currently I am working on new designs and drawings based on the sea and shorelines between Dublin and Wicklow.

The finished pieces involve many techniques, from simple drawings, to low relief and sculptural forms, painting, printing and stitch.   I use a multiplicity of materials including graphite, ink, paint, fabric, natural fibres, thread, clay, paper and found objects.

I have exhibited in galleries and art shows since 1991. I have pieces in the collection of the OPW and in private collections in Ireland and Europe.   The Design Craft Council of Ireland has exhibited my embroideries in their National Touring Exhibitions.
