Mary O’Connor painter and printmaker discusses her work inspiration and shows where she carries out her practice

My practice is painting, screen-printing and painting large-scale wall murals.  I work from my studio at home and on construction sites, I am a member of the Blackchurch Print Studio, that’s where I do my printing.

My non-representational abstract compositions are the translation of my travels across different countries and cultures where I lived over long periods of time. The memory of these places are transferred onto a painted surface which becomes the holder of my experience, establishing a network between the artist, the vast terrain visited in the past and the audience called to make its imagination flow. Working through shape, form and colour, giving a new perspective of those remote places and their exotic cultures.

Currently I am working towards a number of exciting projects and am looking for new studio space as my studio space at home is quite small.
