The sculptor Hugh Cummins takes ArtNetdlr inside his studio to discuss his work with wood
“I was privileged to entertain a small group from the ArtNetdlr for a visit
to my home/studio – it was the last day of “winter” as the attached images
of the event will demonstrate.
I hope I was able to show that my work with wood is guided by the material
itself – the strength, grain and colour. I shared with the group that my
interest in working with the rare and varied timbers of the world
grew from a deep respect for the traditions of wood working which
stretches back centuries.
Presently I am working with woods layered one with the other to generate
unique vessels and shapes.
I am glad the group enjoyed the visit and hopefully are now better informed
about some of the elements of past and present wood work.”
